Government Booklet Project/Research
For this project, you are to make an information booklet for someone new coming to live in Canada. You are to assume that they do not know anything about the type of government we have in Canada and how it is organized to meet the needs of the people of Canada.
You may use pictures wherever possible to aid in your answers and descriptions. Your completed handbook must include ALL of the following information in the correct order.
- What type of government we have in Canada and what that means for the citizens
- The three levels of government starting with the country as a whole, where they are located, who the leaders are (pictures where possible) and the title of each leader
- A brief description of each leader of the different levels of government
- At least ten services provided by each level of government
- Four things an average citizen can do to affect changes through the government
- Description of how the government of Calgary is made up and its different sections (you may use a diagram of the WARDS)
- Four statements about government that are FACTS and four that are OPINIONS
- How the leaders of each government are decided upon, and outline the steps in the election process in Canada
- What is a Bylaw. Give an example of one in Calgary.
- A current issue for each level of government that has been in the media recently (you may include the article and paste it into your booklet, but provide a brief description of the issue in your own words)
